The Sapa – Ninh Binh leg is one of the longest in northern Vietnam, and a private car is the easiest way to do it. There is no bus office to find and no change of vehicle: the driver collects you at your Sapa hotel, drives you through the mountains and down the expressway, and drops you at the door of your accommodation in Ninh Binh. You set the departure time, and you can ask the driver to stop for photos, a meal or a rest at any point along the way.

Itinerary

• Pick-up at your hotel in Sapa at the time you booked (most travellers leave in the morning to arrive in daylight)
• Drive down from Sapa to Lao Cai and along the expressway towards Hanoi, then south to Ninh Binh
• Rest and meal stops on request, at no extra cost
• Drop-off at your hotel in Ninh Binh City or Tam Coc after about 7 – 8 hours

The same service runs in the opposite direction, from your Ninh Binh or Tam Coc hotel to your hotel in Sapa.
